Courtney Love Seeks Reconciliation with Dave Grohl
Courtney Love recently discussed her tumultuous relationship with Dave Grohl during a nearly two-hour conversation with Billy Corgan. The discussion covered a wide range of topics, from shared opinions on Kim Gordon to Love’s belief that Marlon Brando was her grandfather.
Addressing a Decades-Long Rift
The conversation eventually turned to Love and Grohl’s history, which dates back to the Nirvana era when Love dated the band’s frontman, Kurt Cobain. Love directly appealed to Grohl, stating, “Come out with it and just say we’re cool.”
Concerns About Public Perception
Love suggested Grohl’s reluctance stems from a fear of alienating his fanbase. She stated, “Be man enough to man up, because you’re the Uberman… You’re afraid it’ll affect your relationship with literal Paul McCartney.” She believes Grohl is hesitant to publicly acknowledge their peace because he fears losing his audience.
Past Disagreements and Shared Experiences
In 2014, Love publicly expressed her disapproval of Paul McCartney’s involvement in a 12-12-12 Hurricane Sandy benefit concert performance with the surviving members of Nirvana. She questioned the dynamic between Grohl and McCartney, noting they both share experiences of having a significant musical partner die tragically and having wives she described as having a “haunting, dark shadow.”
Appealing to Grohl’s Fanbase
Love also expressed frustration with criticism from Grohl’s fanbase, stating, “Dave, it would really behoove me if the straight white males that are your base will stop picking on me.” She clarified that the criticism primarily comes from millennials, while Gen Z is less critical.
Corgan Offers Perspective
Billy Corgan, who has a complex history with Love himself, attempted to mediate the situation. He stated, “I can confirm that I’ve spent time with you and Dave together, and Dave doesn’t have any issue with you.” Corgan added that there is a difference between what happens privately and what is presented publicly.
Accusations of Songwriting About Love
Love interrupted Corgan, claiming Grohl has written four songs about her and her friend Scott Weiland wrote two. She criticized this as “lazy” writing, asking, “Why have you written mean songs about me?” before moving on to another topic.
