Strachan's escape was caught on CCTV, showing him wriggling free from guards and sprinting off towards the Royal Mile.He was later seen wearing a blue hoodie but was recaptured a few hours later following a major police search. Strachan's lawyer, Simon Collins, attributed the escape to a moment of impulsiveness, claiming that Strachan noticed his handcuffs were not tight enough. The violent criminal also had a history of attacking others, including stabbing one man and striking another with a hammer, leaving him with severe injuries.The court heard how Strachan approached the teen at a bus stop, covered in a balaclava, and forced her to his basement where he raped her and threatened her not to tell anyone. The victim's DNA was found at the scene, leading to his arrest while hiding in the Dalry area of Edinburgh.
