Chatfield High School Student Arrested with Knife

A 16-year-old student was arrested on Tuesday after bringing a 7-inch butcher knife to Chatfield High School in Jefferson County, Colorado, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

Planned Attack on Teacher

Investigators determined the student intended to use the knife to harm a specific teacher. The student reportedly took the knife from their home kitchen and concealed it within their backpack before attending the teacher’s class on Tuesday morning.

Student Self-Reported the Plan

However, the student did not carry out the planned attack. Instead, the sheriff’s office stated the student went to the school office, requested to speak with a counselor, and disclosed their intentions.

Knife Confiscated, Student Detained

School staff promptly confiscated the knife and alerted a school resource officer. The student was then arrested on suspicion of unlawful carrying of a weapon on school grounds.

Court Appearance Scheduled

The student was booked into the Marvin W. Foote Youth Services Center in Centennial and is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday. Further details regarding the case have not been released at this time.
