Colorado Resorts Struggle with Low Snow Totals
Many ski resorts across Colorado, including Keystone, are grappling with inadequate snowfall this season, leading to early closures for some operations. This lack of consistent snowpack has forced resorts to make difficult decisions regarding traditional spring events.
Keystone Resort officially announced the cancellation of its highly anticipated weekend Pond Skim and Rail Jam events. The resort expressed disappointment, stating they were "bummed not to be sending off the season with a splash."
Refunds and Alternative Celebrations at Keystone
Keystone confirmed that all participants who had already purchased entry for the cancelled events will receive a full refund. Although the competitive events are off, the resort plans to proceed with various parties featuring music and food throughout the upcoming Saturday and Sunday.
Keystone’s official closing day for the season remains scheduled for April 5, despite the event cancellations.
Telluride's Uncertain Final Day
Meanwhile, Telluride Ski Resort indicated that today, March 31, might mark the very last day of skiing operations for the season. The resort's reopening for additional days hinges entirely on a predicted snowstorm delivering substantial moisture.
Decision Pending on Snowfall
Telluride shared on Instagram that reopening plans will be dictated by actual weather conditions. The goal is to host a closing weekend, provided the forecasted snowfall materializes as expected. The resort extended gratitude to its on-mountain teams for their dedication to maintaining operations throughout the season.
Furthermore, Telluride emphasized that the safety of both guests and employees remains their paramount concern when making operational decisions.
