Clemson’s spring practice period concluded with a 90-minute scrimmage, providing fans with their first glimpse of the 2026 Tigers. While the camp answered some questions about potential starters, several key areas remain uncertain as the team heads into the summer.
Offensive Line Uncertainty
Clemson offensive line coach Matt Luke faces a significant task this summer: determining his starting lineup. The Tigers lost four key offensive linemen – Tristan Leigh, Ryan Linthicum, Walker Parks, and Blake Miller – after last season, necessitating a complete overhaul, including at the center position.
Offensive coordinator Chad Morris aims to implement a fast-paced offense focused on a strong running game, which hinges on a cohesive and powerful offensive line. Identifying the best five players for this crucial role remains a challenge. The emergence of standout freshmen this summer could further impact the lineup before the season begins.
Defensive Line Replacements
The Clemson defensive line must fill the void left by the departure of Peter Woods, T.J. Parker, and DeMonte Capehart, all of whom were NFL Draft-caliber players. Defensive coordinator Tom Allen has numerous candidates vying for these positions.
Several players have received positive attention during spring practice, including returners and newcomers. Transfers London Merritt and C.J. Wesley are also expected to compete for playing time. The competition is fierce, and the final starting four remain to be determined.
Tight End Competition
Clemson’s tight end position features a compelling competition between Christian Bentancur and Redshirt Sophomore. Offensive coordinator Chad Morris intends to heavily utilize tight ends in his offensive scheme, and both players possess the skills to contribute significantly.
Redshirt Sophomore began last season as the starter but saw increased usage from Bentancur later in the year. Bentancur excels as a receiver, while Redshirt Sophomore offers more potential as a blocker. The ultimate decision may depend on the specific play calls, but the starting tight end remains unknown until Redshirt Sophomore recovers from his spring injury.
