Chicago Man Faces Felony Charges After Alleged Officer Shooting
A Chicago resident is now facing numerous felony charges following an incident where he allegedly fired upon police officers during a pursuit on the city's South Side. The suspect was apprehended shortly after the confrontation on Saturday evening.
Menard Allison, 34, was taken into custody around 7:45 p.m. on Saturday. The arrest location was in the 6400 block of South Green Street, situated within the Englewood neighborhood, according to reports from the Chicago Police Department (CPD).
Details of the Confrontation
Investigators stated that the arrest occurred less than fifteen minutes after Allison allegedly discharged his weapon in the direction of a CPD officer. Fortunately, no one sustained any injuries during the shooting, and the officer involved did not return fire.
The sequence of events started when officers on patrol noticed Allison operating a motorized scooter in an "unsafe manner" while on the sidewalk. Following this observation, Allison reportedly collided with a light pole and fell from the scooter.
Foot Chase and Arrest
After falling, Allison allegedly attempted to evade capture by fleeing on foot. During this pursuit, he is accused of turning back toward the officers and firing multiple rounds before continuing his escape.
He was subsequently detained a short distance away from the initial scene. Authorities confirmed that a firearm was successfully recovered at the location of the arrest.
Charges and Criminal History
Allison has been formally charged with several serious offenses. These include attempted murder, aggravated discharge of a firearm at a police officer, and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.
Additional charges encompass violating sex offender registration requirements and drug possession. He also faces multiple misdemeanor counts related to resisting or obstructing officers during the arrest.
Police records indicate that Allison has been arrested six times in Chicago since 2015. Previous charges against him have included aggravated discharge of a firearm and possession of a stolen vehicle.
Allison is currently scheduled to appear for a detention hearing on Tuesday.
