Legendary country music songwriter and former college football player Casey Beathard is opening up about the tragic stabbing death of his son, Clay, and how his faith carried him through the unimaginable loss. Finding Forgiveness Through FaithIn the Fox Nation special Chords of Faith, Beathard explained that his trust in God allowed him to forgive Michael Mosley, the man convicted of killing his son on a December night in Nashville in 2019. It was just going to kill me to carry all this weight, all this stuff, Beathard said. He explained that the more he dug into the Word of God, the more he realized God could be trusted with justice.Vengeance, you know, it is not mine, because that was just going to weigh on me, he said. Vengeance was God. It helped me be free and let me let it go. Beathard also described the deep pain he felt for Mosley, saying the man was not loved growing up.He expressed sympathy for the Tennessee man convicted of killing his son. Because this kid, honestly, when I looked across the room at this kid, it was so sad for a young kid to have to spend his whole entire life in prison, Beathard said. His parents were not there, and I think he was looking for love and found love in the wrong, wrong, wrong places, he added.Clay Beathard, one of Casey Beathard's five children, was stabbed to death outside The Dogwood bar in Nashville on December 21, 2019. Attorneys said Mosley pulled a knife during a fistfight, resulting in the deaths. Mosley was charged and convicted of first-degree murder in March 2022.
