The MV Hondius, a cruise ship suspected of carrying hantavirus, has arrived at the port city of Tenerife in Spain's Canary Islands. This arrival marks the beginning of the disembarkation process for four Canadian passengers and other asymptomatic travelers on board.

Health Screenings Underway

Passengers showing no symptoms are being screened for the virus by various international health organizations. The ship's owner, Oceanwide Expeditions, confirmed that the World Health Organization and other groups are involved in the screening process.

Canadian Travelers Await Next Steps

Global Affairs Canada and the Public Health Agency of Canada have not yet commented on the disembarkment or the next steps for the Canadian travelers. The outbreak was reported after April 1, following stops at isolated islands in the South Atlantic, affecting both Canadian and non-Canadian passengers.

Casualties and Infections

Three non-Canadian passengers have died due to the outbreak, and five others, who have already left the ship, are confirmed to be infected with hantavirus. The ship's arrival in Tenerife comes as a relief to the remaining passengers, who are now undergoing necessary health checks before disembarking.
