Calgary man faces six sexual assault charges in Airdrie and Calgary A Calgary man is accused of sexually assaulting women at retail stores in Airdrie and Calgary, with four charges in Airdrie and two in Calgary. Calgary police have charged a man in connection with a string of sexual assaults at retail stores in Airdrie and Calgary. Shawn Thompson, 30, faces six counts of sexual assault, four related to Airdrie investigations and two in Calgary. He was arrested in Airdrie on Thursday and later released from custody. He is scheduled to appear in Airdrie court on Oct. 1. Airdrie RCMP announced the charges after linking the cases to Calgary police investigations. Calgary police released photos of the suspect wanted in connection with sexual assaults at Calgary retail stores.The investigation began after Airdrie RCMP launched a probe into a series of sexual assaults on Tuesday. The assaults happened at the Walmart on Main Street in Airdrie on Aug. 12 and Aug. 29, and at the No Frills on Yankee Valley Road on Sept. 17. In all three Airdrie cases, female victims had their buttocks grabbed by a male, RCMP said. In the first and second incidents at Walmart, the suspect did not say anything and left the store.During the third incident at No Frills, two victims were sexually assaulted. Mounties said the second victim confronted the suspect, who did not respond and left the store. Calgary police were investigating two similar incidents in Calgary while Airdrie RCMP investigated the Airdrie assaults. The two agencies later determined the same suspect was responsible for all six offences.Investigators from both agencies reviewed CCTV footage and identified consistent physical characteristics and clothing, as well as the repeated use of a red SUV throughout the occurrences. The suspect was arrested in Airdrie on Thursday. Thompson is now facing six counts of sexual assault.
