Avalanche’s Makar to Miss Games with Injury

Colorado Avalanche star defenseman Cale Makar is expected to miss some time due to an injury sustained during Monday’s game against the Calgary Flames. The injury occurred late in the second period when Makar was checked into the boards by Calgary forward Adam Klapka.

Injury Details and Timeline

Makar finished the game, even recording an assist on a Nathan MacKinnon power-play goal, but did not return for the third period. Head coach Jared Bednar described Makar as “doing OK,” but confirmed he will be out of the lineup for a period of time.

Playoff Status Remains Secure

Despite the injury, Bednar emphasized that Makar’s playoff availability is not currently in question. “Nothing serious, like nothing that is putting playoffs in jeopardy or anything like that,” Bednar stated. The team is prioritizing Makar’s recovery to ensure he is fully healthy for both the playoffs and the final games of the regular season.

Lineup Changes for Upcoming Game

Nick Blankenburg will replace Makar in the lineup for Wednesday night’s game against the Vancouver Canucks at Ball Arena. Sam Malinski will take over quarterbacking duties on the Avalanche’s top power-play unit.

Malinski Stepping Up on Power Play

While Sam Malinski has seen limited power-play time this season (11:09), coach Bednar highlighted his offensive production. “He’s producing the most in the offensive zone right now,” Bednar said, adding that this is a good opportunity to showcase one of the club’s breakout players. Malinski expressed confidence in his ability to handle the increased responsibility, stating, “It’s not like I haven’t run a power play before…it’s pretty good players. I can just kind of give them the puck and watch them go.”

Makar’s Season Stats

Prior to the injury, Makar had a strong season, recording 20 goals and 75 points in 73 games.
