Brooklyn Community Responds to Infant's Death
A massive manhunt is underway in Brooklyn following the tragic death of a seven-month-old baby girl. Police believe the shooting, which occurred on Wednesday around 1 p.m., was gang-related.
Details of the Shooting
The baby, identified as Kaori Patterson-Moore, was in a stroller with her mother at the intersection of Humboldt and Moore streets when shots were fired. Her two-year-old brother, also in the stroller, sustained a graze wound to the back but is expected to be okay.
Family's Escape and Discovery
Following the gunfire, the baby’s mother, father, and older brother ran to a nearby bodega for safety. The mother’s screams alerted them to the fact that Kaori had been struck by a bullet.
Suspect Information and Pursuit
Police are actively searching for the individual who was driving the moped involved in the shooting. Surveillance footage shows the suspects fleeing northbound on Humboldt Street, traveling the wrong way down a one-way street.
Moped Crash and Initial Arrest
The moped collided with a car, throwing both suspects from the vehicle. One suspect was taken into custody at a hospital for an unrelated incident – a domestic violence-related robbery – but the charges related to the shooting are still pending.
Description of the Remaining Suspect
The suspect still at large is described as a young male last seen wearing light gray pants, a white t-shirt, and a black surgical mask covering the lower portion of his face. He was last seen fleeing in the direction of the Marcy Houses. The NYPD has released an image of the suspect and considers him the subject of a “massive manhunt.”
$5,000 Reward Offered
On Thursday morning, Rev. Kevin McCall, a civil rights leader, and local clergy announced a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspect responsible for Kaori Patterson-Moore’s death.
