Former Seahawk Breno Giacomini Exits UFL Coaching Role Quickly
The tenure of former Seattle Seahawks offensive lineman Breno Giacomini with the United Football League’s (UFL) newest franchise has concluded abruptly. Giacomini, who had recently been named the offensive line coach for the Louisville Kings, confirmed his departure via his Instagram account.
This firing comes less than a week after his hiring was noted among former Seahawks participating in the UFL season. Giacomini was part of a list compiled by Field Gulls detailing ex-Seahawks involved in the league this year.
Louisville Kings' Debut Performance
The Kings kicked off their inaugural season with a narrow 15-13 defeat against the Birmingham Stallions. Despite the loss, the offensive line managed to allow only one sack against quarterback Jason Bean.
However, the ground game struggled significantly during the opening match. The team’s running backs collectively managed only 11 carries, resulting in a mere 19 yards rushing.
Giacomini's History with Seattle and Louisville
Breno Giacomini was a key player for the Seattle Seahawks, playing with the team from 2010 through 2013. He concluded his time in Seattle as the starting right tackle, securing a Super Bowl ring with the franchise.
His playing style was often noted for its physicality, which occasionally led to post-whistle altercations or personal foul penalties. This coaching position marked Giacomini’s first foray into coaching since his NFL career ended in 2018.
Coaching Role Was a Homecoming
The role with the Louisville Kings held special significance for Giacomini as he is an alumnus of the University of Louisville. This made the UFL opportunity a return to his alma mater in a professional capacity.
Neither Breno Giacomini nor the Louisville Kings organization has provided an official statement articulating the specific reasons behind his immediate dismissal following the first game.
