Boy George Witnessed Golders Green Knife Attack

Attack in Golders Green

Boy George revealed he was at the scene of a knife attack in Golders Green, London, which left two Jewish men injured. The incident has sparked outrage and renewed concerns about rising anti-Semitism in the UK.

Details of the Incident

The Culture Club singer shared a video from the scene on X, describing a palpable sense of panic during the harrowing attack on Wednesday. Shloime Rand, 34, sustained a chest wound, narrowly missing vital organs, while Moshe Shine, 76, was stabbed in the neck at a nearby bus stop minutes later.

Suspect and Response

Authorities have identified the suspect as a British national of Somali origin, previously known to the Government’s Prevent deradicalisation programme. Police footage shows the suspect being apprehended by law enforcement and Shomrim, a Jewish community security organization, after attempting to attack officers.

The suspect, who has a history of serious violence and mental health issues, was subdued using a Taser.

Community and Political Reaction

Boy George expressed his support for the victims and the Jewish community, emphasizing their role in London’s multicultural landscape. The attack has ignited widespread condemnation and protests, with locals voicing anger towards the government.

Chief Rabbi Sir Ephraim Mirvis has called for decisive action, and international figures have also demanded an end to the violence. Kemi Badenoch, the Opposition leader, described the situation as a ‘national emergency’ and called for a comprehensive response.

Victims and Aftermath

Mr. Rand and Mr. Shine are currently recovering in hospital and are reported to be in stable condition. However, Mr. Rand’s family expressed frustration at the lack of contact from the British government, despite outreach from the US administration.

The incident has sparked a broader debate about the rise in anti-Semitic attacks in the UK, with Jonathan Hall, the independent reviewer of terror legislation, labeling it the ‘biggest national security emergency since Covid’.

The Jewish community is demanding an end to hate marches and zero tolerance for anti-Semitism on university campuses. Boy George accompanied his post with a link to Amy Winehouse’s song ‘Love Is A Losing Game’, a tribute to the late Jewish singer who was cremated at Golders Green Crematorium.
