Boston College Guard Enters Transfer Portal

The Boston College Eagles men’s basketball team is seeing another player depart, as sophomore guard Luka Toews has entered the transfer portal. This news comes just after the program introduced its new head coach, Luke Murray.

Details of Toews' Departure

The announcement was reported by Jeff Goodman of The Field of 68 via X (formerly Twitter). Goodman stated, “Boston College sophomore Luka Toews will enter the transfer portal, he told @TheFieldOf68.”

Toews' Performance at Boston College

Toews, a native of Tokyo, Japan, played two seasons for the Eagles, appearing in a total of 53 games. Over his career, he averaged 4.2 points, 1.0 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in 15.6 minutes per game.

This past season, Toews saw increased playing time, starting in 20 of 29 games. He averaged 6.3 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists in 21.4 minutes per game during Boston College’s 11-20 campaign.

Recent Coaching Change

The transfer announcement follows closely on the heels of Luke Murray’s introductory press conference as the new head coach of the Eagles. Murray was officially named head coach on March 26, replacing Earl Grant, who was fired on March 8 after five seasons.

Murray's Vision for the Program

During the press conference, Coach Murray outlined his vision for the future of the program, emphasizing preparation and competitiveness. “We’re going to be a very tough and competitive and hungry basketball team and we’re going to be prepared above all else,” Murray stated. “When BC takes the floor…you’re going to be able to have the confidence that the team that takes the court is prepared for competition.”

Murray also highlighted the players’ desire to represent the university with pride, saying, “I met with a lot of the guys yesterday on the team and one of the sort of messages that kept coming up was an ability to really play for the front of the uniform.”
