‘The Black Mirror Experience’ Arrives in Montreal
A highly anticipated 60-minute interactive event, ‘The Black Mirror Experience,’ is set to premiere in Montreal this May. This unique offering blends physical space with virtual reality (VR) technology.
The experience is based on Charlie Brooker's acclaimed, dark, and satirical drama series, 'Black Mirror.' It is being produced by Banijay Live Studio in collaboration with Univrse.
The debut location will be Infinity Experiences, a venue specializing in location-based virtual reality entertainment in the Canadian city.
Exploring Technology's Impact
The award-winning Netflix anthology explores humanity's complex relationship with modern technology. Across seven seasons, the series has garnered 29 major awards and captivated a massive global audience.
This first-of-its-kind experience directly challenges participants by forcing them to confront similar choices explored in the show. Visitors will step into a narrative where their digital decisions shape the outcome.
The Phaethon Storyline
Attendees will be invited to the exclusive opening of Phaethon’s showroom. Phaethon is a major tech giant preparing to unveil its most ambitious product: LifeAgent.
LifeAgent is described as a robot designed to simplify life, understand desires, and help users achieve their best selves. Initially, the experience feels reassuring and seamless, but that perfection soon begins to unravel.
A New Frontier in Entertainment
‘The Black Mirror Experience’ marks the public debut for Banijay Live Studio. This unit of Banijay Entertainment focuses on transforming the company's intellectual property (IP) into location-based entertainment.
François de Brugada, CEO of Banijay Live, stated that this move expands Banijay Entertainment's connection from the screen into real-world interactive events.
Tristan Desplechin, a producer at Banijay Live Studio, emphasized that the goal is to create experiences that can only be lived in person. He noted that 'Black Mirror' is the ideal starting point due to its cinematic and thought-provoking universe.
Desplechin added that the collaboration with Univrse has resulted in something that redefines location-based entertainment.
Technological Innovation
David Bardos, director and founder at Univrse, highlighted the significant technological hurdles overcome during development. He mentioned the necessity of employing technology previously unseen in the location-based entertainment sector.
Bardos believes this creation sets a new benchmark for the industry, both technically and experientially.
For context, the show's seventh season premiered on Netflix in April 2025. Charlie Brooker, Jessica Rhoades, and Annabel Jones served as executive producers for that season.
