The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) confirmed the arrest of one of its deputies for driving while intoxicated (DWI). The incident occurred early Tuesday morning, leading to immediate administrative action.
Off-Duty Deputy Charged with DWI
Sergeant Veronica Sanchez, aged 44, was taken into custody by San Antonio police officers. The arrest for DWI took place at approximately 2:19 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
Sergeant Sanchez has served with the Bexar County Sheriff's Office for 13 years. She was off-duty at the time of her apprehension by local law enforcement.
Administrative Action and Sheriff's Response
Following the arrest, the BCSO immediately issued Sergeant Sanchez a notice of proposed dismissal. She has also been placed on paid administrative leave while the termination process is pending.
Sheriff Javier Salazar addressed the situation in a formal statement. He emphasized the high standards expected of all deputies, particularly those in supervisory roles.
Sheriff Salazar stated, "Sergeant Sanchez has been a popular and respected member of this agency. Rightfully, we hold all of our deputies to a higher standard, even more so when they hold a supervisory rank." He concluded by noting his expectation that "her career to survive this huge violation of the public trust" will not happen.
