James Worthington, a vocal critic of David and Victoria Beckham's luxury estate plans in the Cotswolds, has been revealed to live over 9,000 miles away in Australia. Despite presenting himself as a concerned local resident, Worthington admitted in an objection letter that he had been working outside the UK since 2019, with an address in Perth, Western Australia.

Opposition to Beckhams' Estate Developments

Worthington lodged multiple complaints against the Beckhams' planning applications for their Grade II-listed home in Great Tew, Oxfordshire. He accused the celebrity couple of transforming the rural village into a 'suburbia-style' development reminiscent of Miami or Florida. The Beckhams' proposals included additions to their sprawling countryside retreat, known as Maplewood Barn, and LED lighting around a man-made lake.

Specific Concerns Raised

In objection letters sent to West Oxfordshire District Council in 2023 and 2026, Worthington criticized the Beckhams for allegedly damaging the rural character of the village. He also accused them of 'drip-feeding' planning applications rather than presenting a comprehensive long-term vision for the estate.

Discrepancy in Residency Claims

The revelation of Worthington's Australian residency has raised questions about his standing to object to local planning applications. Despite his repeated objections, he has not been a UK resident since 2019, according to his own admission in one of the objection letters.
