Armed Carjacking Rocks East Village Overnight

The New York City Police Department (NYPD) is investigating a serious carjacking incident that occurred in the East Village late last week. A taxi driver was targeted at gunpoint in the middle of the night by a group of assailants.

The crime took place in the early hours of March 23, specifically around 1:30 a.m. The location of the incident was 2nd Avenue in Manhattan's East Village neighborhood. The victim was a 51-year-old cab driver sitting inside his vehicle.

The Confrontation and Theft

According to police reports, a group consisting of four unknown individuals approached the driver. They initially requested transportation to a specific destination, which the driver subsequently denied.

It was immediately following this refusal that the situation escalated violently. Allegedly, one member of the group displayed a firearm, forcing the driver out of the taxi. The four suspects then successfully stole the vehicle and fled the scene.

Vehicle Recovery and Suspect Description

The stolen taxi was eventually located later in Newark, New Jersey. Authorities are now actively seeking the public's assistance in identifying the four individuals involved in the armed robbery.

The NYPD provided descriptions of the suspects based on eyewitness accounts. Three of the four individuals were last observed wearing matching attire: black sweatshirts, dark pants, and black sneakers.

The fourth suspect was described differently. This individual was last seen wearing a light-colored sweatshirt, a black jacket, and carrying a bookbag.
