Actor Andrew Garfield is once again facing intense speculation regarding a potential return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this time fueled by rumors surrounding the new Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer.
Garfield Reacts to 'Brand New Day' Trailer Edits
Fans have scrutinized a specific shot from the trailer showing Tom Holland's Peter Parker battling characters believed to be The Hand. This scrutiny stems from past instances where Tobey Maguire and Garfield's Spider-Men were digitally removed from Spider-Man: No Way Home promotional material.
During a recent interview with Capital FM, Garfield directly addressed these theories. He expressed skepticism about the idea that other characters were edited out of the battle scene.
Dismissing the Conspiracy Theories
Garfield stated, "This feels like a reach to be honest. Like what do you mean there's like room for other characters? There's literally just space underneath Spider-Man." He humorously added that there is probably room for more characters in every frame of the film.
The actor labeled the attempts to deduce his involvement from the trailer as "absolutely ludicrous, conspiracy theory level attempts at like investigative journalism. You've lost your damn minds." However, he concluded his segment with a playful tease, noting, "you notice I didn't say that I wasn't in it though, right? Or am I a traitor?"
The Lingering Question of Garfield's Involvement
In a separate conversation with Heart, Garfield acknowledged that questions about his secret appearances in new Spider-Man projects may never cease.
He shared, "I think it's a question that's probably going to follow me for the rest of my life, 'Are you secretly in the new Spider-Man film?' Until I'm 90 years old, they're going to be asking me... But also people can ask me whatever they want; my life is very blessed."
Other Potential Secret Characters
While Garfield's Peter Parker involvement remains unconfirmed, the concept of digitally removed characters is not entirely implausible for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios are keeping the plot details highly confidential.
For instance, Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner has been confirmed, but the Hulk has not appeared in the marketing footage. It is possible the Hulk was removed from the mentioned battle sequence to preserve the surprise for moviegoers.
Furthermore, Charlie Cox's Daredevil is another strong possibility for a surprise appearance. The trailer suggests the Phase 6 film takes place after Daredevil: Born Again season 2, making a secret appearance by the Devil of Hell's Kitchen easier to manage.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled for release on July 31, 2026, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, with Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers writing the screenplay.
