Marlins Dominate White Sox with Alcantara's Stellar Performance

Sandy Alcantara delivered a masterful performance on Wednesday, throwing the first complete-game shutout of the MLB season to lead the Miami Marlins to a decisive 10-0 victory over the Chicago White Sox. The 2022 NL Cy Young Award winner needed only 93 pitches to complete the game.

Alcantara Achieves Rare 'Maddux'

Alcantara’s outing marked his second career complete-game shutout completed with fewer than 100 pitches – a feat known as a “Maddux,” in honor of Hall of Famer Greg Maddux. This was his 13th career complete game overall. He struck out seven batters while scattering three singles and hitting one batter.

Marlins Offense Explodes

Hicks Leads the Way with Four RBIs

Liam Hicks powered the Marlins’ offense, hitting a home run, two singles, and driving in four runs. This performance increased his Major League-leading RBI total to 12. Otto Lopez also contributed with a home run, and Graham Pauley recorded two doubles.

Early Lead and Continued Momentum

The Marlins quickly established a lead, scoring four runs in the first inning against White Sox starter Shane Smith. Connor Norby and Owen Caissie also drove in runs during the first inning rally. Hicks extended the lead to 6-0 with a two-run home run in the second inning.

Further Offensive Support

Javier Sanoja added a two-RBI single in the third inning, and the Marlins continued to add to their advantage with further runs in the sixth and eighth innings. Hicks added another RBI single in the sixth, while Lopez homered off White Sox reliever Jordan Leasure in the eighth.

White Sox Struggle

White Sox starter Shane Smith struggled, allowing eight runs and seven hits over just three innings. He has conceded 12 runs and 15 hits across 4 2/3 innings in his first two starts of the season.
