Alabama Governor Hospitalized
Alabama Governor Kay Ivey was hospitalized on Tuesday after undergoing a procedure to remove fluid pressing on her lung, according to a statement released by her office.
Details of the Procedure
The 81-year-old Republican governor sought medical attention after experiencing discomfort in her left side and shortness of breath. The fluid was discovered during a check-up with her doctor.
Governor Ivey's Condition and Recovery
Governor Ivey underwent a minor procedure to remove the fluid. Spokeswoman Gina Maiola stated the procedure was not an emergency, but the Governor wanted it addressed promptly to ensure a swift return to full health.
Monitoring and Future Plans
Ivey is currently being monitored at Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery “in the coming days” as a precautionary measure. Maiola confirmed the Governor is “determined to make a very speedy and full recovery.”
Statement from the Governor's Office
“While it was not emergent, Governor Ivey wanted to get the procedure done as soon as possible so she can quickly get back to 100% to wrap up the 2026 Regular Session,” Maiola said. The Governor described the affected area as a small, localized spot.
