2027 Kia Seltos Debuts with Major Updates
Kia has unveiled the redesigned 2027 Seltos, featuring a larger footprint, updated technology, and the long-awaited addition of hybrid powertrains. The new model promises enhanced space, improved features, and a more competitive edge in the subcompact SUV segment.
Hybrid Powertrain Details
Hybrid variants of the 2027 Seltos will become available approximately six months after the launch of the gasoline models this spring. Kia will offer both a front-wheel-drive hybrid and an electric all-wheel-drive hybrid option.
Hybrid System Specifications
The front-wheel-drive hybrid is expected to utilize a 1.6-liter Atkinson-cycle direct-injected engine, a belt alternator/starter, and a six-speed twin-clutch transmission with an electric helper motor. This setup, similar to the one in the Kia Niro, produces 139 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. The all-wheel-drive hybrid will add a second electric motor at the rear axle, potentially increasing torque and off-road capability.
Enhanced All-Wheel Drive and Terrain Modes
The gas-model Seltos’ on-demand mechanical AWD system receives a software upgrade. This upgrade allows for more precise application of the all-wheel-drive clutch and introduces new terrain driving modes, including Snow, Sand, and Mud. Depending on the trim level, the Seltos will offer up to 8.1 inches of ground clearance.
Increased Space and Versatility
The 2027 Seltos boasts a 2.3-inch longer wheelbase and increased width, resulting in a roomier passenger compartment. Cargo space has also been improved, with seats-down volume increasing from 62.8 to 64.1 cubic feet and seats-up volume rising from 26.6 to 27.8 cubic feet.
New Storage Solutions
A height-adjustable and multi-folding luggage board, along with new flexible Kia Add Gear attachment points, enhance the versatility of the luggage compartment, providing drivers with more storage options.
Styling and Interior Updates
The exterior styling of the 2027 Seltos draws inspiration from Kia’s larger SUV models. Inside, the cabin features design cues from other Kia vehicles, including a relocated shifter on the steering stalk and a twist paddle incorporating the start-stop button. This design frees up console space for cupholders and wireless device charging.
Technology and Features
The Seltos will offer a dual 12.3-inch all-digital Connected Car Navigation Cockpit with over-the-air update capability. Users can stream content from Disney+, Netflix, and YouTube when parked. The screen can also be customized with Disney characters or sports logos. Available options include a panoramic sunroof, surround view monitor, and a memory power driver’s seat.
Advanced Driver-Assist Systems
Standard driver-assist features include lane keeping assist, lane departure warning, driver attention warning, high-beam assist, intelligent speed-limit warning, and forward collision avoidance assist with pedestrian and cyclist detection.
Trim Levels and Availability
Entry Seltos 2.0-liter models will be available in LX, S, EX, and X-Line trims. The 1.6T engine will be exclusive to the X-Line trim. Hybrid trims are expected to include EX and X-Line options. Wheel options range from 16-inch to 19-inch, depending on the trim. New exterior colors include Terrain Brown, Frost Blue, and Snow White Pearl with a black roof.
Pricing and Release Date
Combustion-only models are expected to go on sale in Spring 2026, with pricing expected to increase modestly. The Seltos hybrid models will arrive later in 2026, with full details released this summer or early fall.
