Cooler Temperatures and Windy Conditions Expected

A storm system is set to maintain its influence over Arizona today , leading to cooler temperatures and windy conditions. The Valley will experience a further dip in temperatures on Friday, with highs dropping into the 80s. Flagstaff is expected to see highs in the low 60s.

Wind gusts are predicted to reach 15-25 mph in the Valley, but could hit up to 35-45+ mph in the High Country. This system, responsible for below-average temperatures and windy weather over the past few days , will continue to impact the region today.

Understanding the Weather Pattern

An area of low pressure , previously stuck over California, is now shifting northeast. This system is expected to bring a few scattered showers and thunderstorms to northern Mohave and Coconino counties. The High Country may also experience some passing clouds, although most of northern Arizona will remain dry today.

In addition to the moisture, mild air will keep temperatures below normal through Friday. The windy conditions are also expected to persist, with the strongest gusts in northeastern Arizona leading to a wind advisory.

Cool Morning Lows and Weekend Outlook

Thanks to the passing system, the morning lows will be surprisingly cool for the end of May. Phoenix is expected to drop to the mid 60s, while Flagstaff could near freezing on Saturday morning. Winds are predicted to die down over the weekend as the area of low pressure shifts northeast of the state.

The temperature is expected to start climbing with high pressure building into the south/southwestern United States by early next week. By Monday , the high is predicted to reach 104, and 105 on Tuesday. It will remain generally dry around much of the state to kick off next week.
