An easyJet flight traveling from London Gatwick to Antalya, Turkey, was forced to divert to Pristina International Airport in Kosovo due to a disruptive passenger incident.

Incident Details

The disruption began when a passenger, reportedly British, allegedly consumed a significant amount of vodka and became aggressive towards another traveler. Witnesses reported seeing the passenger ‘swigging’ vodka from a bottle before physically assaulting another passenger, including spitting.

Escalation and Intervention

Video footage shows the passenger lunging across the aisle in an attempt to strike the other passenger. The situation quickly escalated, involving two male passengers and resulting in a full-blown brawl in the cabin. Flight attendants attempted to de-escalate the situation, but ultimately required security personnel to remove the disruptive individuals – a man in green and a woman in pink – from the aircraft in Kosovo.

Passenger Accounts

One witness described the scene as ‘mental’ and expressed concern for the flight attendants. Seated behind the involved passengers, the witness began filming the altercation for both evidence and personal safety.

Further Confrontation

The footage also reveals a male passenger aggressively confronting another holidaymaker who had reported the disruptive behavior to the crew, highlighting the volatile atmosphere onboard.

Flight Disruption and Industry Concerns

The diversion caused a three-hour delay, and the flight eventually reached Antalya. This incident underscores growing concerns about disruptive passenger behavior, particularly when fueled by alcohol, and the impact on other passengers, including families.

Airline Responses

EasyJet reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards disruptive behavior and emphasized the safety of passengers and crew. Ryanair’s Michael O’Leary has suggested limiting passengers to two alcoholic drinks at airport bars. Ryanair already bans hot beverages and alcohol brought onboard.

The airline industry is facing increasing pressure to address disruptive behavior proactively and implement effective strategies to maintain order and security on flights. Investigations are underway, and legal ramifications for those involved are anticipated.
