Samsung Electronics has launched its newest generation of foldables and wearables, including the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and Galaxy Watch Ultra2. These devices will be available in 106 markets starting August 7.
The 200 MP lens and 4.1 mm thickness of the Fold8 Ultra
Samsung Electronics is pushing the boundaries of foldable hardware with the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, which features an 8-inch main display and a high-resolution 200 MP camera mode. According to the report, this "Ultra" model is designed for creative workflows, boasting a slim 4.1 mm profile when unfolded and a weight of 215 grams.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra also introduces a 50 MP ultra-wide camera for macro shots and 45 W Super Fast Charging. Meanwhile, the standard Galaxy Z Fold8 focuses on portability, weighing in at 201 grams and utilizing display ratios optimized for both quick cover-screen interactions and immersive multitasking.
A $161.94 incentive for Google AI Pro users
To drive adoption of its AI ecosystem, Samsung Electronics is offering a six-month trial of Google AI Pro to buyers of the Galaxy Z 8 series. As the report says, this bundle includes 5 TB of cloud storage and is valued at $161 .94.
This move reflects a broader industry shift where hardware manufacturers are bundling high-cost AI subscriptions to lock users into a specific software ecosystem. By integrating Google's AI models directly into the foldable experience, Samsung Electronics is attempting to transform the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Flip8 from mere phones into AI-driven productivity hubs.
800 mAh batteries and 3,000 nits of brightness
The wearable side of the launch sees the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 targeting high-performance outdoor users with a 47 mm chassis and a substantial 800 mAh battery. This device is positioned as a rugged alternative to the Galaxy Watch9, which is aimed at general wellness and features a lightweight aluminum casing.
The Galaxy Watch9 emphasizes visibility and health monitoring, offering a display that reaches 3,000 nits of brightness and integrated Vitals monitoring. Both the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Galaxy Watch9 are designed to sync with the Z series phones to provide a unified health-tracking experience.
QR-code migration and AirDrop compatibility for iOS users
Samsung Electronics is aggressively targeting iPhone users by simplifying the migration process through an updated Smart Switch tool. iOS users can now scan a QR code to wirelessly transfer data, including eSIM information, passwords, and call history, without needing to download a separate application.
In a rare move toward interoperability, the company has introduced compatibility between Quick Share and AirDrop. This allows Galaxy and iPhone users to share files more easily, removing one of the most significant "walled garden" barriers that typically prevent users from switching platforms.
The missing price points for the Z Fold8 Ultra
Despite the detailed technical specifications, the announcement leaves several critical questions unanswered, most notably the retail pricing for the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and the Galaxy Watch Ultra2. While the value of the AI trial is clear, the actual cost of the hardware remains unspeciifed in the current rollout details.
It is also unclear which specific carriers in the 106 markets will offer the most aggressive subsidies for the Galaxy Z Flip8 and Galaxy Z Fold8. Furthermore, the report focuses heavily on Samsung's claims of "strong early demand" without providing specific pre-order numbers to quantify the growth compared to previous generations.
