Ecovacs has launched the Winbot W2S Pro Omni, a mid-range window-cleaning robot designed to offer premium features at a lower cost. The new device features an integrated battery and enhanced suction power to tackle large or difficult-to-reach glass surfaces.

10,000 pascals of suction and a 130-minnute battery

The Winbot W2S Pro Omni features a significant boost in cleaning power compared to previous mid-range offerings. According to the report, the device delivers 10,000 pascals of suction, representing a 2,000 pascal increase over the standard W2S unit. This power is supported by an internal battery that provides approximately 130 minutes of runtime, making it the first mid-range model from Ecovacs to feature an integrated battery rather than relying on a tethered station.

This shift toward battery independence addresses a major limitation of the earlier W2S Omni, which required its base station to remain plugged into an electrical outlet to function. By decoupling the mid-range model from a constant power source, Ecovacs is moving closer to the level of mobility found in its high-end flagship products.

Overcoming the 2-millimetre edge detection limit

Improved sensor technology allows the Winbot W2S Pro Omni to navigate modern architectural glass more effectively than its predecessors. While the older W2S model was limited to detecting edges that protruded by at least 2 millimetres, the new model uses an enhanced algorithm to recognize frameless or free-standing glass. This upgrade is intended to prevent the robot from failing to recognize the boundaries of contemporary, minimalist window designs.

The ability to handle frameless glass is a critical step for consumer robotics, as it allows the machine to operate in homes with high-end, seamless glass installations. This technical refinement aims to solve the common issue where robots lose their grip or fail to navigate correctly when encountering non-traditional window frames.

Doubling the scrubber count to four

Hardware refinements in the W2S Pro Omni bring its cleaning mechanics much closer to the specifications of the flagship W3 Omni. The new system includes a base station equipped with four scrubbers, which is a notable incerase from the two scrubbers provided in the earlier W2S model. This increase in scrubbing power is intended to ensure a more thorough clean across larger surface areas.

To further refine the cleaning process, the robot utilizes specialized felt pads designed to lift the cleaning surface slightly. this design choice is specifically intended to reduce the amount of dirt and debris being pushed into window corners, a common frustration for users of flat-surface cleaning robots.

The logistical hurdle of manual pane transfers

Users must still account for certain manual limitations when using the Winbot W2S Pro Omni for large-scale cleaning tasks.. As the report notes, the robot cannot yet move autonomously between different window panes, requiring human intervention to transition the device from one surface to the next. This remains a significant logistical challenge for households with multiple, disconnected windows.

Furthermore, while the improved edge detection is a step forward, it remains to be seen if the device can fully resolve the suction loss issues that the flagship W3 Omni has occasionally faced when encountering tapered framing. While Ecovacs claims the new lift and detection systems will mitigate this, the real-world performance on complex, narrow frames remains an unverified claim for this mid-range tier.
