Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Junior Caminero suffered a bruised jaw after being struck by a foul ball during Tuesday night’s game against the Cleveland Guardians.
Foul Ball Incident
The incident occurred in the top of the first inning when Caminero fouled off a pitch. The ball bounced erratically off home plate and hit him in the right cheek.
Caminero immediately showed signs of pain, and Rays trainer Joe Benge attended to him. Despite the initial shock, the 22-year-old was able to return to the plate and continued playing.
Rays Secure Victory
Despite the injury, Caminero helped the Rays secure a 1-0 victory over the Guardians, extending their winning streak to six games. The team’s only run was driven in by Aranda.
Cash's Comments
Guardians manager Kevin Cash expressed relief regarding Caminero’s condition. “He’s in really good spirits, and I would expect him to be in the lineup tomorrow. That ball really came off the plate hard, and I’m just glad that he’s in a pretty good spot right now,” Cash stated.
Caminero's Status
The Rays have confirmed Caminero has a bruised right jaw and is currently listed as day-to-day. He is considered a rising star and a potential 2025 American League All-Star.
The incident served as a reminder of the risks players face, but Caminero’s quick recovery was a relief to fans and teammates alike. The Rays are continuing their strong performance as they prepare for their next game.
