The National Football League announced Friday that Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice will not face further disciplinary action related to allegations of physical assault made by his former girlfriend, Dakoda Jones. The league stated Rice did not violate its personal conduct policy.
Allegations and Lawsuit Details
Dakoda Jones shared images on social media earlier this year depicting bruises and wounds, alleging they were inflicted by Rice. She subsequently filed a lawsuit in Dallas County, Texas, in February detailing a pattern of alleged abuse.
Details of the Alleged Abuse
The lawsuit alleges various forms of violence, including grabbing, choking, strangling, pushing, throwing, scratching, hitting, and headbutting. It also claims Rice threw objects, punched walls, and destroyed furniture, with many incidents occurring while Jones was pregnant with their two children.
Previous Discipline and Incident
This decision concludes a period of scrutiny for Rice, who previously received a six-game suspension for his involvement in a multi-car collision in Dallas. During that incident, Rice was driving at speeds approaching 120 mph and left the scene before law enforcement arrived.
He later pleaded guilty to two third-degree felony charges, receiving a 30-day jail sentence, five years of probation, and a requirement to cover the victims’ medical expenses.
NFL Investigation and Response
The NFL conducted a thorough investigation into the recent allegations. Rice’s attorney, Sean Lindsey, expressed gratitude for the investigation and stated Rice is looking forward to the 2026-27 NFL season.
Impact on Rice and the Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs organization has not yet issued an official statement. Despite the allegations, Rice is currently eligible to participate in all team activities.
Rice’s performance last season included 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns, but the Chiefs finished with a 6-11 record and did not reach the playoffs. The ongoing legal proceedings and public attention surrounding the accusations may continue to impact his career and future contract negotiations.
