Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne has announced a contract extension for head men’s basketball coach Nate Oats. This extension secures Oats’ future with the university and acknowledges his achievements with the Crimson Tide program.

Oats Among Nation's Top Paid Coaches

The new agreement places Oats among the top five highest-compensated men's basketball coaches in the United States. This financial commitment highlights the university’s confidence in Oats’ ability to deliver continued success.

Byrne confirmed the details on social media and stated that the board of trustees has been informed, with the formal approval process underway.

Sweet 16 Appearance and Recent Successes

The contract extension comes after Alabama’s 2024 NCAA Tournament run ended in the Sweet 16 with a 90-77 loss to Michigan on March 27. Despite this defeat, the program has experienced significant growth under Oats’ leadership.

Prior to this year, Alabama reached the Elite Eight in two consecutive seasons and advanced to the Final Four in 2024, ultimately falling to UConn.

A Strong Record at Alabama

Throughout his seven seasons at Alabama, Nate Oats has compiled an impressive record of 170-73. He has led the Crimson Tide to six consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances.

The 2024 season concluded with a 25-10 record, despite facing challenges, including the indefinite suspension of star guard Aden Holloway following a felony drug charge on March 16.

Oats previously signed a contract extension in 2024, demonstrating the university’s initial commitment. This latest extension further solidifies that commitment and supports Oats’ long-term vision for the program.
