The New Orleans Saints have selected Lorenzo Styles Jr. in the fifth round of the 2026 NFL Draft, continuing a remarkable family tradition in professional football.
A Third Generation NFL Player
Styles, a versatile defensive back, was chosen with the 172nd overall pick. This makes him the third member of his family to reach the NFL, following in the footsteps of his father, Lorenzo Styles, and brother, Sonny Styles.
Historic Draft for the Styles Family and Ohio State
Lorenzo and Sonny Styles are the first pair of brothers from Ohio State University to be drafted in the same NFL Draft. This historic achievement marks only the sixth time in Buckeyes history that a brotherly duo has been selected in the NFL Draft.
From Notre Dame to Ohio State
Lorenzo Styles Jr.’s path to the NFL is unique. He began his collegiate career at Notre Dame, playing wide receiver in 26 games and recording 54 receptions for 684 yards and two touchdowns.
In 2023, Styles transferred to Ohio State and transitioned to the defensive side of the ball. Over three years as a Buckeye, he participated in 34 games, contributing 46 tackles and seven pass deflections.
Saints Add Buckeye Talent
The Saints already have a strong presence of Ohio State alumni on their roster, including Chris Olave, Pete Werner, and Chase Young. Styles’ athleticism, showcased as the fastest defensive player at the NFL Scouting Combine, will be a valuable addition.
Ohio State's Defensive Back Tradition
Styles’ selection marks the 70th time an Ohio State defensive back has been drafted into the NFL, highlighting the program’s consistent production of top-tier defensive talent. His versatility, having played both nickel and safety, will be an asset to the Saints.
