Anthony Sweeney, a 6-foot-4, 230-pound defensive end from Baltimore, Maryland, is ranked as the No. 3 edge rusher nationally, the top prospect in Maryland, and the No. 20 overall player in the 2027 class. His commitment to Texas Tech was announced on Monday.

Sweeney has demonstrated significant potential at St. Frances Academy, recording 83 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, and 11 sacks over two seasons. He also forced a fumble and was selected to participate in the 2026 Under Armour All-America Game.

Texas Tech's Recruiting Momentum

South Carolina offered Sweeney a scholarship in January 2025 and hosted him for multiple visits. The Gamecocks have already committed four-star Julian Walker and three-star Keenan Britt as edge rushers for 2026. For 2027, South Carolina has one defensive commitment, three-star safety Jernard Albright.
