Former University of Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore is facing serious allegations of exploitation and control brought forth by Paige Shiver, a former intern and executive assistant.

Years-Long Relationship and Allegations

Shiver detailed a years-long relationship with Moore, beginning in 2022 while he was married and serving as the offensive coordinator. The relationship continued after Moore’s promotion to head coach in early 2024, becoming widely known within the Wolverines athletics program.

Shiver asserts that Moore leveraged his power to control her career, creating a situation where she feared professional repercussions if she attempted to leave. She stated Moore had the ability to terminate her employment at any time, emphasizing the power imbalance.

Pregnancy and Response

The situation became particularly complex when Shiver became pregnant with Moore’s child. After receiving medical advice that continuing the pregnancy would be detrimental to her health, she informed Moore.

According to Shiver, Moore responded by stating she should prioritize her own well-being, a response she interprets as manipulative and lacking genuine care.

University Response and Legal Repercussions

Upon discovering the undisclosed relationship, the University of Michigan terminated Moore’s employment, citing a violation of university policy and a failure to meet leadership standards.

Shortly after his termination, Moore allegedly confronted Shiver at her apartment, threatening self-harm. This led to his arrest and a no-contest plea to two misdemeanors: malicious use of a telecommunications device in the context of a domestic relationship and trespassing.

Calls for Accountability

Shiver’s attorney, Andrew Stroth, has characterized the situation as a “systemic failure” on the part of the university, alleging a hostile environment. Stroth called for accountability from Interim President Domenico Grasso, General Counsel Tim Lynch, and the Board of Regents.

He demanded a commitment to building an athletic department compliant with NCAA and Title IX regulations.

Motivations and Broader Implications

Shiver came forward to prevent other young women from experiencing similar exploitation and control. She emphasized the widespread knowledge of the relationship within the university and the lack of action taken by officials.

The case raises critical questions about university responsibility, power dynamics in college athletics, and the consequences of unchecked authority.
