Arsenal's Comeback
Arsenal equalized in the 59th minute following a free kick. Mariona Caldentey’s driven ball was misjudged by Lyon’s goalkeeper, Christiane Endler, and ultimately deflected into the net by Lyon center back Ingrid Engen for an own goal.
Late Winner Secures Advantage
Olivia Smith completed the comeback in the 83rd minute. She capitalized on a miscommunication in Lyon’s defense, intercepting a poor back-pass and scoring the rebound after her initial shot was saved.
Looking Ahead
The second leg is scheduled for Saturday in Lyon, where the French side will need to overcome the one-goal deficit. The other semifinal features Bayern Munich and Barcelona, who drew 1-1 in Germany.
The Champions League final will be held in Oslo on May 23rd. Arsenal previously overcame Lyon in the semifinals last season, ultimately winning the title, and will aim to repeat that success.
