Recent Losses

The Royal Family has experienced profound personal losses in recent years. Katharine, Duchess of Kent, passed away in September 2023 at the age of 92.

These losses followed the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022, at the age of 96, and Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, in 2021 at the age of 99. These events highlight the human element within the institution.

Centenary Commemoration at Buckingham Palace

King Charles III and Queen Camilla hosted a reception at Buckingham Palace to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II’s centenary, bringing together current working members of the Royal Family.

A photograph released from the event showcased the assembled royals, arranged from youngest to oldest: the Prince and Princess of Wales, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, the Princess Royal, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, and the Duke of Kent and Princess Alexandra.

King Charles led a rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’ for his mother and three other family members celebrating their birthdays. He personally presented signed cards and participated in cutting a cake shared amongst 190 guests.

The guest list included representatives from 45 of the charities and organizations supported by Queen Elizabeth II, such as Cancer Research UK, the British Red Cross Society, and the Royal Kennel Club.
