DC Al Toque, a new Venezuelan restaurant, is preparing to open its doors on 14th Street, introducing a diverse range of traditional dishes to the Washington D.C. area.

A Family Affair

The venture is a family-run business spearheaded by Adriana Rodriguez, Misael Amaya, Alexandra Rodriguez, and Jonathan Avendaño. They have been quietly preparing the space previously occupied by Sabor Latino in the Columbia Heights neighborhood.

“We are simply a family looking to start a business and do Venezuela proud by doing things right,” Adriana Rodriguez stated, also noting the warm welcome from the local community.

Venezuelan Culinary Roots

Originally from Valencia, Venezuela, Adriana and her former husband previously owned a successful butcher shop. After moving to Washington D.C., she met Misael Amaya, who encouraged her to pursue her culinary ambitions.

Diverse Experience

While each team member brings experience from the food service industry – Amaya previously managed La Caverna sports bar – DC Al Toque marks their first collaborative restaurant project.

Authentic Venezuelan Cuisine

DC Al Toque’s menu showcases the breadth of Venezuelan gastronomy. Patrons can look forward to dishes like parrillada, a grilled platter with chicken, beef, chorizo, and more, served with yuca.

Signature Dishes

  • Pabellón Criollo: Venezuela’s national dish, featuring shredded beef, black beans, rice, plantains, avocado, cheese, and a fried egg.
  • Pepito de un Metro: A meter-long steak sandwich with egg, ham, cheese, corn, and avocado.

  • The Meaning of “Al Toque”

The restaurant’s name, “Al Toque,” translates to “right now” or “immediately” in Spanish, but also signifies perfection and quality. The owners aim to become a beloved part of the D.C. food scene, offering a genuine taste of Venezuela.
