The incident unfolded at the Washington Hilton around 8:15 PM during the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner. President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, FBI Director Kash Patel, and numerous journalists and dignitaries were in attendance when a gunman opened fire.

The Secret Service immediately prioritized the security of President Trump and all guests. President Trump and the First Lady were quickly escorted from the stage and safely returned to the White House.

FBI Director Kash Patel, attending the dinner with his girlfriend, country singer Alexis Wilkins, demonstrated remarkable composure. He directed those at his table to take cover and repeatedly urged others to “stay down” to ensure their safety.

Following the immediate threat, Patel and Wilkins checked on the well-being of nearby reporters before being escorted out by his security detail.

Originally scheduled to deliver a traditional roast, President Trump expressed uncertainty about proceeding with the speech, deeming humor inappropriate given the circumstances.

FBI Director Patel also spoke at the briefing, praising the law enforcement response and appealing to the public for any information regarding the shooter’s motives. He stressed the importance of sharing any detail, no matter how small, with investigators.
