Newly-elected Scottish Greens MSP Q Manivannan may not be able to complete their full term due to immigration status concerns, according to the party's co-leader, Gillian Mackay. Manivannan, representing the Edinburgh and Lothian East region, requires a new visa to continue serving at Holyrood.

Visa Renewal Process and Financial Challenges

Mackay stated that while it is "likely" a visa will be granted, Manivannan will need to undergo the renewal process during the parliamentary session. The MSP had previously sought financial assistance to cover the costs of a graduate route and global talent visas.

Political Reactions and Controversies

The Scottish Greens and Reform UK Scotland have expressed differing views on the matter. Additionally, Manivannan has faced criticism, including allegations of "unfollowing" Auschwitz on social media and supporting the vandalism of posters of Israeli hostages. Thomas Kerr, deputy leader of Reform UK in Scotland, argued that these actions should disqualify Manivannan from office.
