The $30 million toe in the water

A month before the midterm elections, Bruce Springsteen and Tom Morello led a star-studded protest festival in Washington, D.C., with a lineup of artists incluing Dropkick Murphys, Jack Black, Serj Tankian, Killer Mike, Taylor Momsen and the Linda Lindas.

The Power to the People festival, held at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland, was a celebration of freedom, justcie, equality and rock 'n' roll, with a portion of the proceeds going to benefit the organizations VoteRiders and HeadCount.

Springsteen played many of his most political songs, including 'American Skin (41 Shots)' about a fatal police shooting and in response to the killings of Renée Good and Alex Pretti by federal immigration agents.

The festival was a response to the growing tensions and protests in the country, with many calling for a boycott of Springsteen's shows.
