eStCru Wines, a California winery partially owned by Tim Mynett, husband of Representative Ilhan Omar, has ceased operations amid an ongoing financial investigation.
Winery Closure and Investigation
The winery officially closed on April 4th, according to California public records. This shutdown coincides with increased scrutiny from House Republicans regarding Representative Omar’s financial standing and net worth.
RNC Criticism
Delanie Bomar, a spokesperson for the Republican National Committee (RNC), stated that Representative Omar has a history of attempting to cover up financial improprieties and that voters will hold her accountable in the upcoming elections. The RNC views the timing of the closure as suspicious.
House Oversight Committee Probe
The increased attention to eStCru Wines stems from an investigation by the House Oversight Committee into Representative Omar’s finances. The committee is focusing on the financial assets held by her husband, Tim Mynett.
Asset Value Discrepancy
Chairman James Comer sent a letter to Mynett in February highlighting a significant increase in the reported value of eStCru LLC and Rose Lake Capital LLC. These companies saw a surge in value from as little as $51,000 in 2023 to as much as $30 million in 2024.
Comer expressed concern that this increase could indicate undisclosed investments aimed at influencing Representative Omar’s political decisions. He requested documentation and communication records related to both companies.
Omar's Response
Representative Omar has attributed the initial discrepancy in her financial disclosures to an accounting error. Her spokesperson explained that the original filing was based on incomplete information from Mynett’s businesses’ accountants.
Amended Disclosures
Following the amendment of her disclosures, Representative Omar now claims that the combined value of her and her husband’s assets falls between $18,004 and $95,000. Jacklyn Rogers, Omar’s communications director, emphasized that the amended disclosure confirms that the congresswoman is not a millionaire.
Ongoing Scrutiny
Despite the amended disclosures, the timing of the winery’s closure continues to draw scrutiny and fuel questions about the transparency of Representative Omar’s financial dealings. The House Oversight Committee’s investigation remains ongoing, with further details expected as they review the requested documentation.
