Linda Greene, a resident of Placentia, has been named the latest winner of Atlantic Canada's 'Set for Life' lottery, taking home the top prize of $675,000.
Understanding the 'Set for Life' Prize
Atlantic Lottery's 'Set for Life' is a $4 Scratch 'N Win ticket that provides winners with two different ways to claim the top prize:
- $1,000 per week for a duration of 25 years.
- A lump sum payment of $675,000.
Greene has decided to accept the lump sum payment option.
Future Plans and Peace of Mind
For Greene, the win represents the realization of a long-held dream. She noted that being able to do things she never dreamed possible, and the opportunity to share those experiences, is what the win is truly about.
Greene and her husband expressed that the prize money will provide significant peace of mind for their future. "This gives us the freedom to know we are going to be looked after for the rest of our lives, we're very happy about that," the couple shared.
The couple intends to share the winnings with their three adult children and is also planning a holiday together.
A Winning Year for Newfoundland
Greene is the second Newfoundlander to win a 'Set for Life' top prize so far this year. She follows Corven McDonald of Hermitage, who won his top prize in February and described the win as a "dream come true."
Where the Winning Ticket Was Purchased
The winning ticket was purchased at Lawton's in Placentia. As a result of the major win, the retailer will receive a one per cent seller's prize.
