A water contamination incident in Mountain View has left nearly 67 households without safe drinking water until at least Monday.
Contamination Source and Affected Areas
The issue began when a contractor working on a water main near Bonita Avenue and Cuesta Drive accidentally introduced a slurry mix into the water system. The affected streets include the 600 block of Cuesta Drive, the 600-700 block of Leona Lane, Montalto Drive, Drucilla Drive, and Carla Court.
'Do Not Use Water' Advisory
On Friday night, the city issued a ‘Do Not Use Water’ advisory for the affected area. Residents were warned against using tap water for drinking, cooking, washing dishes, handwashing, bathing, or any other household purposes until further notice.
Ongoing Testing and Restoration Efforts
Water utility crews have been working since Saturday to flush the system and conduct preliminary water quality tests. If initial tests indicate the water is safe for limited non-drinking uses, such as flushing toilets, the city will directly notify affected households with instructions.
However, comprehensive drinking water safety testing is not expected to be completed until at least Monday.
City Support for Residents
The city is providing support to affected residents, including hotel stays, bottled water distribution, and access to shower facilities at Rengstorff Park Aquatics Center and Eagle Park Pool. Restrooms are also available at the Mountain View Public Library.
Residents needing assistance can call 650-903-6081 or email WaterQuality@mountainview.gov for more information. Updates will be posted on the city’s website.
