The Houston Police Department has released body-worn camera footage documenting a deadly officer-involved shooting that occurred in March near the intersection of Belbay Street and Belarbor Street. The incident involved Kojuan Miles, who authorities say discharged weapons towards officers, ultimately leading to a fatal confrontation.
Incident Details
On March 9th, around 12:30 PM, officers were at a residence attempting to execute a warrant. Upon announcing their presence, Kojuan Miles reportedly armed himself with multiple weapons. Officers immediately sought cover and requested assistance from the Houston Police Department’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit.
SWAT Response and Escalation
Hours after requesting SWAT support, officials state Miles opened the front door and pointed a weapon at the officers. Officer R. Aftermath and Investigation
Houston Fire Department paramedics arrived at the scene but pronounced Miles deceased. The released body-worn camera footage is intended to provide transparency and allow for a thorough investigation into the events.
Footage Analysis
The footage will be analyzed by investigators, legal experts, and the public, focusing on the suspect’s actions, officer positioning, and the timing of shots fired. It will be compared with witness statements, forensic evidence, and ballistic reports to establish a complete understanding of the incident. The HPD is committed to a transparent investigation.
