Central Ohio is experiencing a shift in weather patterns, transitioning from a warm spell to a more moderate weekend and a potentially cooler start to next week.

Today's Warmth and Storm Potential

Today promises significant warmth, with temperatures expected to reach around 84 degrees Fahrenheit. The morning began with clear skies and temperatures in the 50s, but increasing cloud cover is anticipated throughout the afternoon, along with southwest winds of 5 to 15 miles per hour.

This marks the tenth day this year with temperatures at or above 80 degrees, exceeding all previous records for this early in the year, and today is likely to make it eleven. However, the pleasant conditions won’t last all day, as rain and scattered thunderstorms are forecast to arrive later this evening.

Severe Storm Risk

The Storm Prediction Center has issued a marginal risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe storms, with damaging wind gusts being the primary concern. Fortunately, the rain is expected to be short-lived, clearing out overnight and largely exiting Ohio by Saturday morning. Overnight lows will drop to around 60 degrees.

Weekend and Next Week's Forecast

The weekend forecast looks considerably more agreeable. Saturday will bring mild temperatures around 70 degrees Fahrenheit, with a light northwest breeze and decreasing cloud cover.

Sunday will see a slightly cooler start, with a morning low around 47 degrees, but will warm up to around 71 degrees with partly cloudy skies. Monday will remain warm and partly cloudy, with a high near 79 degrees.

Clouds will increase later Monday, with a slight chance of rain developing in the evening. The probability of rain increases overnight into Tuesday as a cold front moves through, potentially bringing a few thunderstorms. Tuesday’s high will be in the mid-70s, accompanied by brisk winds.

Following the front’s passage, temperatures are expected to dip into the mid to upper 60s on Wednesday and Thursday, with a mix of sunshine and clouds. Forecasters are monitoring nearby weather disturbances and will provide updates as needed.
