A CBC News broadcast on Tuesday reported that the United States military conducted strikes against approximately 50 military targets on Karg Island, Iran. The island is a key oil export hub.
Vice President J.D. Vance, speaking while on a trip to Hungary, confirmed the strikes, stating the US targeted military sites on the island following concerns about threats to the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic oil transit point.
Rising Oil Prices Impact Air Travel
The conflict has effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz, through which approximately 20% of the world’s oil and gas passes. This disruption has caused oil prices to rise, with prices currently flirting with $110 USD per barrel. The situation is expected to persist as Iran can cheaply threaten the strait.
Canadian airlines – WestJet, Air Canada, Porter, and Air Transat – are responding to the increased fuel costs by implementing fuel surcharges or extra fees on some bookings. While Canada currently has sufficient jet fuel supply, passengers are facing increased ticket prices. Globally, a lack of jet fuel is leading to rationing and flight cancellations.

The crew requested a new crater on the moon be named after a family member who passed away.
