WASHINGTON – Tensions between the United States and Iran reached a critical point on Monday, with President Donald Trump issuing an ultimatum and threatening military action, according to a CBC News broadcast.

Trump stated that if a deal is not reached by 8 p.m. Eastern Time on Tuesday, U.S. forces will target Iranian civilian infrastructure, warning of potential “mass destruction” within four hours. He further claimed that a “complete and total regime change” could occur in Iran, with “different, smarter, and less radicalized minds” taking over. The broadcast noted that Trump has repeatedly used similar tactics to pressure opponents.

Reports emerged during the broadcast of attacks on rail lines and electrical infrastructure within Iran, as well as indications that Karg Island, a key location for Iranian oil exports, may be under attack. There was discussion of potential ground troop deployment to seize the island.

Istanbul Consulate Attack

In a separate breaking development, a gun attack targeted the Israeli consulate in Istanbul, Turkey. According to the broadcast, at least one gunman was killed, two others were wounded, and a security officer sustained minor injuries. The Turkish Interior Minister stated the attackers were brothers with links to an organization exploiting religion. No Israeli staff were present at the consulate during the attack.

Artemis Crew Completes Historic Lunar Mission

On a more positive note, the Artemis crew is on its return journey to Earth after setting a record for the farthest distance traveled by humans. The Orion spacecraft experienced a 40-minute communication blackout while rounding the far side of the moon. Astronauts gathered data, including observations of the lunar surface, meteors, a solar eclipse, and planets like Mars, Venus, and Saturn. Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen was part of the crew and witnessed the Oriental Basin, a 3.8 billion-year-old crater, for the first time with the naked eye. The crew also named two new craters, one after the late wife of astronaut Reed Wiseman.
