Zehra, a 52-year-old woman from Essex, experienced a common challenge after losing over eight and a half stone: significant loose skin impacting her self-esteem and clothing choices.

The Challenge of Excess Skin After Weight Loss

Substantial weight loss, whether achieved through surgery like a gastric sleeve or other methods, often results in excess skin. This occurs because the skin, stretched over time, loses elasticity due to a decline in proteins like collagen and elastin.

Exercise alone is often insufficient to tighten the skin, particularly in areas like the abdomen, arms, and thighs. This can significantly affect an individual’s quality of life and self-image.

A Comprehensive Surgical Solution

Zehra consulted with surgeon Mo Akhavani at The Plastic Surgery Group, who recommended a comprehensive approach. This included a 360 Lipo Body Lift with a fleur de lis technique, internal abdominal wall repair, and a breast lift with fat transfer.

The Fleur de Lis Technique

The fleur de lis technique differs from a traditional tummy tuck by addressing excess skin both horizontally and vertically. This provides a more contoured shape, particularly beneficial for those with significant skin laxity.

Surgery and Recovery

In July 2025, Zehra underwent the five-hour procedure. Her recovery was manageable, supported by excellent aftercare from knowledgeable nurses.

Regular check-ups and wound care were provided for the first two weeks, followed by ongoing support. Within approximately six weeks, Zehra was pleased with the initial results.

Addressing Remaining Concerns

The initial surgery removed excess abdominal skin, contoured her waist, lifted her buttocks, and enhanced her breasts. However, Zehra remained self-conscious about loose skin on her arms.

In October 2025, she returned for a brachioplasty to address this concern and simultaneously underwent breast implant surgery.

A Newfound Confidence

Zehra now expresses immense satisfaction with her transformation, both physically and emotionally. She notes that the scars are minimal and aesthetically pleasing.

“The internal confidence gained is the most valuable outcome,” Zehra emphasized, stating the surgeries have allowed her to feel comfortable and empowered in her own skin.
