Approximately 50,000 FitRx SmartBell adjustable dumbbells sold at Walmart are being recalled due to a risk of weight plates detaching and causing injuries. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has received over 115 reports of incidents, including six injuries.
Recall Details
The recall affects FitRx SmartBell Quick-Select 5–52.5 lb. Adjustable Dumbbells manufactured by Tzumi Electronics. The CPSC issued the recall due to a design flaw that allows weight plates to detach during use, posing an impact hazard to users.
Reported Incidents and Injuries
The CPSC has documented over 115 reports of weight plates becoming loose while people were exercising. These incidents have resulted in at least six reported injuries, including bruises, contusions, broken toes, and lacerations.
Identifying the Recalled Dumbbells
The affected dumbbells have model number 8361 and serial number ranges KK23288361 through KK23388361 and KK207608361 through KK213478361. They were sold at Walmart stores nationwide between January and November of 2024 for around $100.
Product Description
The dumbbells feature a black finish with red accents and include a molded plastic storage tray. Consumers can mark the tray with the word 'Recalled' to easily identify them.
What Consumers Should Do
The CPSC strongly advises consumers to immediately stop using the recalled dumbbells. Consumers should contact Tzumi Electronics to arrange for a free replacement.
