The weight room at Gordon Head Recreation Centre in Saanich, British Columbia, is once again open to the public following significant repairs and improvements. The District of Saanich officially announced the reopening on Tuesday, with the facility operating under its regular hours.

From Repairs to Full Overhaul

What began as a focused repair project quickly expanded to include a complete overhaul of the roof structure. This necessitated crucial seismic upgrades to enhance the building’s resilience and ensure compliance with current safety standards.

Interior Enhancements for User Comfort

The renovations extended beyond structural improvements. The District of Saanich implemented interior enhancements to improve the user experience.

Upgrades Included:

  • New, durable flooring
  • Modern, energy-efficient lighting
  • Fresh paint
  • Upgrades to heating, ventilation, and safety systems
  • New Fitness Equipment Added

The weight room now features a suite of new fitness equipment, including a bench press, squat rack, lat pulldown machine, seated row machine, and expanded cardio options. This investment aims to support a diverse range of fitness goals.

    Commitment to Community Wellness

The District of Saanich emphasizes the importance of accessible, well-maintained recreational facilities for a healthy community. The reopening demonstrates this commitment.

    Minimal Disruption During Maintenance

The weight room will remain accessible for most of the recreation centre’s annual maintenance shutdown, scheduled from June 15th to June 28th. A brief closure is expected due to a planned water interruption, but the district aims to minimize disruption.

Residents are encouraged to utilize the renovated space and new equipment to achieve their fitness objectives. The District of Saanich continues to invest in recreational infrastructure to support a healthy and active lifestyle.
