Newfoundland and Labrador Launches Province-Wide Health System, CorCare
N.L. Health Services has launched CorCare, a new digital health record system, designed to enhance patient care, continuity, and access to health information via the MyHealthNL patient portal. The launch took place at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, marking a significant shift in healthcare delivery across the province.
A Unified Digital Health Record
CorCare establishes a unified, digital health record accessible to authorized healthcare personnel. This interconnected system aims to eliminate information silos that have historically hindered seamless transitions between hospitals, clinics, continuing care facilities, and community-based services.
This improved connectivity is expected to reduce medical errors, improve diagnostic accuracy, and ultimately lead to better patient outcomes.
Empowering Patients with MyHealthNL
A key component of the CorCare launch is the enhanced patient portal, MyHealthNL, powered by MyChart®. This platform provides patients with unprecedented access to their personal health information.
MyHealthNL Features
- View scheduled appointments
- Access test results
- Monitor waitlist positions
- Review personalized care plans
- Access clinic notes
- Manage proxy access for family/caregivers
This level of transparency and control is designed to foster a stronger partnership between patients and their healthcare providers.
Transformative Change for the Province
Ron Johnson, interim CEO of N.L. Health Services, described CorCare as a “generational clinical change” for Newfoundland and Labrador. He emphasized the organization’s dedication to prioritizing people in all aspects of care.
The anticipated benefits include a more connected patient experience, reduced administrative burdens, improved continuity of care, and expanded access to vital health information.
Phased Rollout and Support
N.L. Health Services has implemented a carefully planned, phased rollout of CorCare to ensure a smooth transition. Critical services, including inpatient care, urgent and emergent care, medical imaging, and non-elective hospital services, will continue uninterrupted.
Emergency departments will remain fully functional, and no scheduled appointments have been cancelled due to the system launch. The health authority has invested in training programs and ongoing support for healthcare providers.
