British passengers and crew from a cruise ship affected by a hantavirus outbreak will be repatriated to the UK and isolated at Arrowe Park Hospital on Wirral, Merseyside. The facility, previously known as 'Camp Corona' during the COVID-19 pandemic, will serve as a quarantine site for the evacuees, similar to its role in 2020 when it housed British nationals returning from China.

Repatriation Plan for Hantavirus Evacuees

The evacuees, including 19 passengers and three crew members, will be flown from Tenerife to the UK as part of the government’s repatriation plan. Arrowe Park Hospital was chosen due to its experience in handling infectious disease outbreaks, having also been used for Ebola quarantine in the past.

Symptomatic Patients to Receive Separate Treatment

Any individuals showing symptoms of hantavirus will be transferred to another facility for specialized treatment. The Spanish government has confirmed plans to send a repatriation flight for the group, ensuring their safe return to the UK.
